Cernitol Novum is a herbal medicine for the treatment of symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, such as frequent and nocturnal urination.

The prostate gland is located just below the bladder in men and surrounds the upper part of the urethra. Its growth is controlled by the male sex hormone testosterone, and hormonal changes that occur with age are thought to be the reason why the prostate increases in size over the years. This is called benign prostatic hyperplasia.

By the age of 50, most men have an enlarged prostate, but not everyone experiences problems with this. In some, however, the enlarged gland compresses the urethra in a way that leads to problems with urination. These problems can manifest as frequent urges and difficulty emptying the bladder completely. Some other more serious diseases, such as prostate or bladder cancer, can cause similar symptoms to those of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Therefore, always consult a doctor before using Cernitol Novum.

Cernitol Novum are coated tablets, i.e. they are covered with a smooth surface to be easy to swallow. The recommended dose is 1 film-coated tablet 3 times daily. The effect of Cernitol Novum is achieved gradually and it may take up to three months before the full effect is achieved. Cernitol Novum contains extracts of rye, timothy and corn.

Dosage & use

The recommended dose is 1 tablet of Cernitol Novum 3 times daily. The tablets are swallowed whole with liquid. The effect of Cernitol Novum is achieved gradually and it may take up to three months before the full effect is achieved. Treatment should then be continued to maintain the effect. Contact a doctor before starting treatment with Cernitol Novum to ensure that the symptoms are not caused by an underlying disease. Not to be used by children, adolescents or women.

The active substances in 1 film-coated tablet are: 40 mg dry extract of dried raw pollen from Secale cereale L. (rye), Phleum pratense L. (timothy) and Zea mays L. (corn) in the ratio 30:1.5:1. Extraction agent: water:acetone:sodium lauryl sulfate (96:4:0.022 m/m/m). 6.6 mg thick extract of dried raw pollen from Secale cereale L. (rye), Phleum pratense L. (timothy) and Zea mays L. (corn) in the ratio 30:1.5:1. First extraction agent: water:acetone:sodium lauryl sulfate (96:4:0.022 m/m/m). Second extraction agent: acetone. The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, maltodextrin, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide, polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol and talc.
